What Are The Causes of Hypertension?

What Are The Causes of Hypertension? The cause of hypertension has not been ascertained in more than 90 percent of cases. In cases where there is absolutely no obvious cause or factor, hypertension is known as primary hypertension. There are several factors that are thought to increase your risk of experiencing this condition, namely:

  1. Age. The risk of hypertension increases with age.
  2. Hereditary factors. People with family members who have hypertension have a high risk of experiencing the same condition.
  3. Smoke. Cigarettes can increase blood pressure while constricting artery walls.
  4. Being overweight or obese. The levels of oxygen and nutrients that flow through the blood will be measured by the body according to body weight. Excessive weight will require more oxygen and nutrients, so more blood volume is needed. Increased blood volume will increase blood pressure.
  5. Lack of exercise. People who rarely exercise tend to have a faster heartbeat, so the heart will work harder. Harder heart work will increase blood pressure.
  6. High salt content in food. High salt levels can cause a buildup of fluid in the body, which then increases blood pressure.
  7. Too much alcohol. Alcohol content in liquor can trigger damage to the heart organ.
  8. Stress. High levels of stress have the potential to trigger an increase in blood pressure.

While hypertension caused by certain basic conditions is called secondary hypertension. Overall, 10 percent of cases of hypertension are secondary. Some of the causes behind this condition generally include:
