Memory Loss Definition
Memory loss definition is a term used when a person can not remember a particular information, experience, or event. This condition can occur suddenly or progressively gradually.
Missing memories can be either just happenings or long-lost memories. People who suffer from amnesia can also have difficulty in learning new information or forming new memories.
Types of Memory Loss Diseases
- Anterograde amnesia that occurs when the sufferer is difficult to remember things that happen after a certain period or date. People with amnesia can only remember things for the short term.
- Retrograde amnesia, a type of amnesia in which the sufferer can not recall past information before a certain period or date. For example, memory loss before the date of major surgery or accident.
As we get older, our ability to remember will generally decrease. However, amnesia can also be a symptom of a more serious illness or health problem. You should check with your doctor if you have a memory loss that worries you, such as memory loss that occurs without a clear cause.
Causes of Memory Loss

Dementia is a set of symptoms associated with decreased brain performance. Memory loss is one of the symptoms in dementia. However, these two conditions are not the same. Experiencing memory loss does not necessarily mean you are automatically dementia.
